Designing My PhD Launch Strategy (2027 Entry)


Almost everyone measures life by comparing finish lines. I don't. I measure life by starting lines.

Growing up in a small village in Bihar, my first finish line was simply reaching opportunities that others already had. Once reached, that finish line became my next starting line. This pattern of repeatedly upgrading my starting lines—moving from a rural farming background, to residential boarding school, to college, to research placements in the US and UK—is the core theme of my academic profile.

1. Defining the Technical Vision

My doctoral research objective is to bridge the gap between low-level hardware security bounds and high-level, mathematically rigorous infrastructure optimization. Specifically:

  • TEE-Bound Edge Runtimes: Building lightweight trusted execution environments (leveraging ARM TrustZone, RISC-V Keystone, or AMD SEV) that protect on-device YOLO inference and Kalman filter tracking loops from physical tampering or host-level security leaks.

  • Verifiable Decentralized Orchestration: Designing secure distributed scheduling systems that route workloads across cameras and edge sensors under constraints, verifying computation integrity via hardware cryptographic signatures.

2. Current Milestones

As of August 2026, my immediate application roadmap includes:

  • Targeting University of Oxford (DPhil) and ETH Zurich (Doctorate in Computer Science) for Fall 2027 entry.
  • Customizing research statements aligning with active research groups like the Secure Computing Systems Group (Prof. Shweta Shinde) at ETH Zurich or the Security Group (Prof. Simon Moore) at Cambridge.
